RIFTS: SHADOW'S ASCENT

CMU ETC project sponsored by META

Rifts: shadow's ascent creates a 15 minute stealth-based level within the Rifts TRPG universe that teaches the player how to use Shadow Step. A skill where the player can merge with shadows, becoming invisible, and dash to other “deep shadows”.
Focused on using visual effects and innovative game systems to create an aesthetic and engaging level in Unreal.

ROLE: Technical Artist, UIUX Designer | 2024. 9

TEAM: 7 Members

PLATFORM: PC

DURATION: 4 Months

TOOLS: Unreal Engine 5

CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PROJECT:

· Technical Artist (VFX):

- Shadow Merge: created spawn particles at the edge of dissolving effects to enhance the Shadow Merge skill, allowing the character to become semi-transparent when entering shadowed areas;
- Developed shooting effects for the magic gun fired from the character's arm;

- Green trap component;

- Vampire shoot;

- Bloody environmental decal.
· UIUX Designer:

- All UI elements design;

- Start, pause, end and tutorial menu;

- Environment design and construction of Thousand Heads Pit and safe area.
